The week off did Granite Bay some good as it was in control from the outset in beating Vacaville 47-21. The win snapped the Bulldogs' 14 game winning streak and cemented the Grizzlies Top 10 ranking.

The Vacaville Bulldogs, 2-0 coming in, ran into a machine hitting on all cylinders as Granite Bay scored the first 30 points of the game en route to the easy win. Granite Bay took control of the game early dominating both lines of scrimmage in the first half. The Grizzlies were very balanced on offense as they mixed up their runs by using all their backs and game planning to use the entire field. Granite Bay head coach Ernie Cooper noted after the game that his team looked fresh and a goal was to come out fast and jump on Vacaville. That they did.

Scoring Summary:

Granite Bay- Grant Caraway to Tony Ellison for a 9 yard touchdown pass with 3:39 left in the first. (7-0)

Granite Bay- John Cooley 5 yard run end of first. 2 point conversion by Cooley. (15-0)

Granite Bay-Cooley 1 yard run with 10:19 left in the second. (22-0)

Granite Bay- Taft Partridge 3 yard run with 40 seconds left in second. (37-6)

Vacaville- Curtis Goins 3 yard run with 7:36 left in the third. (40-14)

Granite Bay- Andrew Towery 23 yard run with 3:36 left in the third. (47-14)

Vacaville- David Mewborn 10 yard TD run with 2:18 left in game. (47-21) Final

Players of Note:

John Cooley RB Granite Bay: He carried the ball 26 times for 113 yards and two scores. Cooley was the workhorse as for the attempts, but also for the tough yards inside on third down conversions. Cooley, because of the heavy workload, also provided numerous opportunities for the other backs as the defense was keyed to stop him.

Tony Ellison FB Granite Bay: Ellison carried the ball just six times, but amassed 123 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns (one running and one receiving). Ellison really showed some shiftiness, but also broke tackles that contradict his slight built. Cooper said after the game that this particular position at Granite Bay has put two players in the NFL and illustrates the athleticism that Ellison possesses.

Cameron Smith LB Granite Bay: Although just a sophomore, Smith is somewhat overshadowed by running mate Beau Hershberger but proved tonight the ability to get off blocks and make numerous plays against the vaunted running attack of Vacaville. Smith has great size at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, but moves very well, identifies the play quickly and makes plays all over the field.

Curtis Goins ATH Vacaville: Though this will not go down as one of his better performance, it was impressive to see Goins' fight and determination to proceed when things aren't going well. He scored a touchdown in the loss.

The record between these two schools now stands at 4-4-1 the past nine years. Next week Granite Bay will host 2-2 Pittsburg and Vacaville will welcome in 4-0 Oak Ridge as Oak Ridge head coach Eric Cavaliere returns to his alma mater.

The JV game was won by Vacaville 43-26.
