Oak Grove escaped with a another narrow victory in a 27-20 win over McClymonds. The Eagles got on the board less than two minutes into the game and never looked back.

Senior Nick Bernardo took the opening kickoff 68 yards, and Chidobe Awuzie scored a six yard touchdown three plays later. This seemed to be the theme of Oak Grove's offense, as Bernardo and Awuzie worked together to lead the Eagles. The duo combined for 135 of the team's 178 rushing yards on the night.

McClymonds got its first score in the second quarter when they faced a 4th-and-16 in Oak Grove territory. Keith Williams hit Lavon Washington in the back of the end zone for a 26 yard touchdown, and the Warriors would not go away.

The first half ended in an interesting way, which started when McClymonds punted in a fourth and long situation. Awuzie blocked the punt with 45 seconds remaining, and Ray Cruz hit Will Ossai for an 11 yard touchdown two plays later. With only 15 seconds left in the half, Washington took the ensuing kickoff for a Warrior touchdown as time ran out.

Awuzie added another touchdown for the Eagles in the third quarter, and McClymonds drove 87 yards late in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit. A two point conversion narrowed Oak Grove's lead to seven, but the Eagles recovered the onside kick to end any type of comeback.

Another key to the Eagle offense was 6-foot-3 tight end Ossai. Although Oak Grove only attempted six passes on the night, five of them were completed. Four of them were to Ossai, who had two touchdowns along with a huge catch on third down to seal the victory.

For McClymonds, senior quarterback Williams was impressive. He finished 16-of-26 for 182 yards and a touchdown along with a rushing score. Williams had the ability to extend plays with his mobility, and showed nice arm strength when he was able to step up in the pocket.

The Warriors, who now fall to 1-3, are much better than their record may imply. They have a strong offensive line, led by left tackle Kevin Vaughn, and some athletic skill players as well. Washington was another highlight for McClymonds, as he finished with three catches for 46 yards and a score along with his 85 yard kick return touchdown. He used his speed and route running to get behind the defense, and also played safety. Yusuf Sterling Lowe was a strong run-stuffer for McClymonds who played strongside linebacker.

On the other hand, Oak Grove finishes the preseason 3-0 with all of their victories decided by seven points or less. They will enter league play next week on the road against Independence.

"We're hoping to go 10-0, win [league], and go to CCS and win a championship," said Awuzie. "That's been our goal from the beginning, we've been saying it for a long time, and we're on the right track right now."
