Week 7 is headlined by a major matchup in the West Catholic Athletic League between Top 5 ranked teams Bellarmine and Serra. Other games to take note of are Merced-Buhach Colony in a Top 20 game and Granite Bay traveling to Rocklin.

Friday

Freedom (4-2) at Pittsburg (4-2) 7:00 PM: These two teams along with Deer Valley will be jockeying for position in the Bay Valley Athletic League the rest of the way. Freedom's two losses came in the season opener to Amador Valley by two points and then a 31-21 defeat against Franklin-Elk Grove where it led 21-0 early. Freedom has plenty of firepower at the skill positions with Darrell Daniels and Joe Mixon. Pittsburg has won three in a row after a 1-2 start, including a road win versus Granite Bay. Last week, the Pirates defense held Liberty to 146 total yards. Pittsburg won this game in convincing fashion last year and despite Freedom being on the upswing heading into the year, the Pirates get a key home win. Pittsburg wins 28-24

#17 California (5-1) at San Ramon Valley (3-3) 7:00 PM: After a 0-3 start, San Ramon Valley has won its first three league games with the meat of the East Bay Athletic League slate upcoming. Quarterback Cameron Birse has been solid the past three weeks with 734 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions and the defense has given up just shy of 14 points per league game. California got out quickly to a 5-0 start, but was knocked off last week by Monte Vista 44-26. Karris Johnson leads the offense at running back, but the defense will have to bounce back from giving up almost 600 yards of offense to the Mustangs. Still, go with Cal to give San Ramon Valley its first league loss. California wins 24-21

#2 Elk Grove (6-0) at Grant (2-4) 7:15 PM: Elk Grove continues to roll along to a 6-0 start behind the running of Robert Frazier and Wadus Parker in addition to a fast defense. The Thundering Herd have double digit point wins over Lincoln-Stockton and Nevada Union and have a looming matchup with Franklin-Elk Grove. Before this, the Thundering Herd will have to travel to a Grant team, which needs every win it can get for playoff consideration. The Pacers got two receiving touchdowns from Trayvon Henderson in almost completing a comeback against Franklin-Elk Grove last week. You can't overlook Grant, especially on the road, but Elk Grove moves to 7-0. Elk Grove wins 35-21

Foothill-Palo Cedro (4-2) at Enterprise (4-2) 7:30 PM: Both teams have played Paradise, the Northern Section's top team, and both took losses. Foothill lost 53-25 while Enterprise fell 42-41 in overtime. Foothill has good offensive balance in averaging almost 450 yards per game, but has given up at least 23 points in five of six games this year. Enterprise sees plenty of players touch the ball on offense with 10 players scoring touchdowns this year. Brad Woods has five rushing scores while quarterback Zack Trueblood has thrown for nine touchdowns and rushed for three more. Expect a high scoring game in this one with Enterprise holding serve at home. Enterprise wins 42-40

#10 Buhach Colony (4-2) vs. #12 Merced (4-2) at Golden Valley High School 7:30 PM: There weren't many who saw this as a Top 20 matchup in the preseason, but it is a game with major implications for the Central California Conference. A common opponent to look at is undefeated Clovis North, which beat Merced 48-26 and Buhach Colony 37-19. Buhach has a good running attack with multiple rushers behind top offensive lineman Aaron Cochran. Merced has risen to No. 12 behind quarterback Eli Gutierrez, who has thrown 17 touchdowns to five interceptions. Merced beat Turlock 19-14 last week while Buhach Colony knocked off previously undefeated Pitman 28-7. Buhach Colony wins 27-17

#18 Granite Bay (3-3) at Rocklin (3-3) 7:30 PM: Granite Bay has won its previous two games by a combined score of 87-20 against Lincoln-Stockton and Roseville after the Pittsburg loss. The Grizzlies have shown signs of a team ranked in the top 10 of the NCP rankings to start the year, but would be buoyed with a good road win heading into the Del Oro game on October 19. Rocklin was very impressive in a 35-9 win over Nevada Union as quarterbacks Logan Webb and Daniel Kniffin combined for 252 yards and four touchdowns. The Thunder has previously beaten Inderkum with losses to Pleasant Grove, Oak Ridge and Del Campo. Grizzlies win a very close one this week. Granite Bay wins 22-21

Palo Alto (3-2) at Wilcox (3-2) 7:30 PM: Both teams come in with 1-1 league marks, which makes this a potential swing game for league standings the rest of the way. After falling to Milpitas at home, Palo Alto bounced back with an easy 55-14 win over Homestead. Matt Tolbert had three rushing touchdowns in the win. Wilcox suffered its first league loss to Los Gatos despite 208 yards and three touchdowns from Delshawn Mitchell. The Chargers are a run heavy team, but can they stop the passing attack of Palo Alto? Go with Palo Alto in a close one. Palo Alto wins 31-28

Monte Vista Christian (5-0) at Seaside (5-0) 7:30 PM: A matchup of 5-0 teams is one of the better games in the Central Coast Section. Seaside has a talented passing attack with Michael Turner and Ronnie Turner combining for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Seaside's defense is giving up just eight points per game, including a win over Palma. Monte Vista Christian is averaging more than 50 points per game with quarterback Nick Matiasevich, who has thrown for 1,038 yards with 12 touchdowns to just one interception. This is the toughest test left on the schedule for Seaside's run at a perfect 10-0 regular season. Seaside wins 28-21

Argonaut (6-0) at Summerville (6-0) 7:30 PM: Argonaut is in the Division III bowl rankings with an impressive 22-7 win over Ferndale, ranked in No. 2 in the Division IV field. Defensively, it is giving up just over seven points per game outside of the forfeit win over Galt. Summerville has running back Tanner Krieg, who has rushed for 774 yards and 10 touchdowns, but it has beaten just one team with a winning record (Brookside Christian). This is matchup of the top teams in the Mother Lode League. Argonaut wins 28-14

Saturday

#3 Bellarmine (4-1) at #5 Serra (5-0) 1:00 PM NCP Game of the Week: A top five matchup takes place in San Mateo in also bringing in the top two teams in the WCAL. Bellarmine overcame a slow start on offense to beat Mitty 14-10 for its fourth straight win. K.J. Carta-Samuels had a passing touchdown and a rushing score in the win. The Bells have given up less than seven points per game during their winning streak. Serra remains undefeated after beating Riordan 56-0. Eric Redwood has 570 yards and 10 touchdowns and the Padres have won 10 in a row dating back to last year. This is a coin flip game, but Bellarmine ekes out a road win to maintain its top billing in the section. Bellarmine wins 21-20
