August 11, 2013Carondelet point guard Natalie Romeo is coming off a standout junior year when she was named the NorCalPreps.com Division II Player of the Year. With wide ranging offers from multiple BCS conferences, the 4-star prospect verbally committed to the Cornhuskers.
The 5-foot-8 Romeo verbally committed to Nebraska last week after narrowing down her list to the Cornhuskers, Utah, Louisville and Oregon State.
"It was amazing." Romeo said of her unofficial visit. "The town is kind of run by the college."
"Their fan base was important. The coaches and the team," Romeo said on why she chose Nebraska. "The way they run. I play best when I can go as fast as I can."
This is evident in Romeo's play with Carondelet last year and Cal Stars Nike Elite this spring and summer. She plays with a very good motor, has good start and stop ability and the vision to set up teammates in the half court and transition. As a junior, she averaged 21 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals.
She is now headed to a Nebraska program which made the Sweet 16 last season and has made the NCAA tournament each of the last two years. She is planning to take her official visit on the weekend of September 13.
"One thing the Huskers will get with Natalie Romeo coming to Lincoln is a confident floor general and one who brings a consistent motor to the floor," NCP analyst Chris Roemer said on the commitment. "Natalie thrives in the open floor offensively and possesses the ability to finish in traffic. A guard with a purpose she's a player they envision playing alongside former Sports City U guard Rachel Theriot."
Before heading to Lincoln, Romeo will continue to rehab from a knee injury suffered in Oregon. It has been diagnosed as a MCL sprain and deep bone bruise. She expects to be fully healthy for the high school season.
Romeo is ranked No.6 in the NCP Top 40 for 2014.
