San Diego Section High School Basketball Rankings 2013/2014- Week One

1.) La Costa Canyon
A couple of seasons ago, head coach David Cassaw told us how excited he was for his talented youngsters to develop. The future is now, with 6-foot-7 junior forward Travis Fuller averaging 24 points and 13 rebounds per game, and fellow juniors Tommy McCarthy and Brady Twombly are establishing themselves as legitimate playmakers as well.
2.) Hoover
Head coach Roosevelt Johnson has two of the most exciting players in the section in forward Jordan Alexander and point guard Miles Nolen-Webb. Senior shooting guard Damonte Holiday adds a veteran presence to the Cardinal.
3.) Torrey Pines
Perfect, if untested, the Falcons get Top 10 Cathedral Catholic on Friday at the West Hills Tournament.
4.) Poway
The Titans have played one of the toughest schedules in the section (if not, the toughest), and are sitting at 2-1 heading into tonight's matchup with Hoover at the Eagle Invitational.
5.) Foothills Christian
A two-point loss to Poway notwithstanding, the Knights are off to a very good start, with wins over El Camino and Hoover already. Nobody in the section can handle the size and ability of sophomore center T.J. Leaf, who's averaging 27 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks per game.
6.) St. Augustine
Head coach Mike Haupt has the Saints rolling early on. St. Augustine has outscored its first three opponents by a 2:1 margin.
7.) Mission Hills
The Grizzlies get their first real test of the season on Friday against No. 6 St. Augustine.
8.) San Dieguito Academy
After a crushing loss to Torrey Pines in the West Hills tournament, the Mustangs came right back to beat Cathedral Catholic in a close game to finish out its season-opening tourney appearance on a high note.
9.) Cathedral Catholic
The Dons' sophomore duo of big man Reid Johnson and point guard Cameron Moore promises to entertain San Diego Section fans for years to come. In the meantime, Cathedral needs its complementary pieces to step up until Johnson and Moore and ready to consistently lead the team.
10.) University City
The unheralded Centurions are off to a good start this season, and are a sleeper pick to challenge St. Augustine and Cathedral Catholic in the Western League title chase.
