San Diego Section Week One Football Rankings

1.) Eastlake (0-0)
This week's matchup between John McFadden's Titans and the Helix Highlanders is the top matchup we could see in San Diego this season. There's simply a plethora of storylines and talent that will be on display Friday night in Chula Vista.
2.) Cathedral Catholic (0-0)
The Dons open the season with an uncharacteristically difficult preseason schedule, facing off against Helix and Vista Murrieta in consecutive weeks.
3.) Helix (0-0)
The Highlanders always have athletes, but they lost much of last season's team, and have something to prove in 2012 if they're going to reclaim the top spot. A game at Eastlake will give Helix a chance for revenge, as the Titans were the only team to give coach Starr's Highlanders a loss in 2011.
4.) Oceanside (0-0)
It was only a scrimmage, but the Pirates' dismantling of Torrey Pines last week quieted concerns over the maturation of senior quarterback Tofi PaoPao and the rest of Oceanside's offense.
5.) Madison (0-0)
The Warhawks' opening-night game against Lincoln should be a lot of fun to watch, as both teams are capable of scoring points in bunches.
6.) Mission Hills (0-0)
Opening the season at Mission Viejo does the Grizzlies no favors, but it gives top athlete Devin Holiday an opportunity to shine on the big stage. Holiday is a dynamic kick returner.
7.) La Costa Canyon (0-0)
Week Two's matchup with Poway will offer a glimpse into LCC's resurgence (or lack thereof), but the Mavericks can't get caught looking ahead this week, even if opening-night opponent Baldwin Park won just two games last season.
8.) Poway (0-0)
The Titans return much of their defense from last year's championship team, and they'll need it with La Costa Canyon, San Pasqual and Oceanside coming up in the schedule.
9.) Vista (0-0)
Head coach Dan Williams and his Panthers face one of the top teams in Colorado this week in Grandview before taking on San Diego superpower Helix. With that schedule, it's conceivable Vista could open the season poorly once again in 2012.
10.) Steele Canyon (0-0)
The Cougars' annual opening-night matchup at Cathedral Catholic is just the start of Steele Canyon's nightmarish preseason slate, as the team also gets Eastlake, St. Augustine and Canyon in the first five weeks of the season.
Just Missed:: La Jolla Country Day, Valley Center, St. Augustine
